still working hard

I sure am glad I did that last post. After having full-time employment for all of five months I am once again the subject of another layoff and back  in a full-time position of finding employment and staying current. I’ll be using those things mentioned in my previous post as well as some new connections made along the way….and I forgot to mention one other way to stay very busy:

Volunteer Work

There are lots of great organizations in the greater Boston area to fill ones time with “good work”. Here are a couple worth checking out that tie into technology and/or engineering:

YouthCITIES

Engineers Without Borders

…and my favorite has been working as an advisor and mentor for a local youth group at First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Arlington. We are travelling to Williamson West Virginia to help build some community gardens. You can follow that action here.

favorite places

We all have favorite places in the world…one of mine is Halibut Point in Rockport, Massachusetts. We went there on Labor day as a final mini summer vacation. It probably has this favorite place status for me because of the many times we visited there as a family when I was growing up. Maybe it is because of the paintings my mother did that were either of this location or inspired by this location. Whatever it is, this beautiful spot, that was once very secluded and now is a frequented state park, is still one of my favorite places.

Maine

We went to Maine last week. We visited my brother and then left the kids with him for a few days while we went to Bar Harbor and hiked  in Acadia. This was the longest time I’ve spent on Mt. Desert Island and I loved it. We visited the Thuya Gardens, sailed on a windjammer and did a lot of hiking. It’s all documented here in photos….oh yeah, the kids had a great time with their uncle and his extended family…I think they had fun with my kids too!
